A week in Igoudmane

We are pleased to present you with an example of what a week’s vacation with us can be like:

The trip:

A 3 1/2 hour flight on Transavia from Amsterdam to Marrakech.

If you arrive in the evening, you will stay overnight in a hotel or riad in Marrakech (We can give recommendations, and arrange reservations if you wish).  If you arrive in the morning, we will pick you up and leave immediately for Igoudmane.

The trip will be divided into two days because there is so much to see on the way.

Day 1: Besides the overwhelmingly beautiful natural landscape, Aït Ben Haddou is a UNESCO World Heritage site that you won’t want to miss. The first night will be spent in Riad Caravane, a beautiful, well appointed hotel.

Day 2:  We drive through the Dadel valley towards Igoudmane. In the afternoon, we will arrive at  Lhoussaine’s family. You will have dinner on the rooftop terrace of the guest rooms, or inside if it is too cold.

Day 3: Bicycle trip with Lhoussaine in the area of El Khorbat. El Khorbat is an old Ksar (village) 35 km (22 miles)from Igoudmane. Lunch in hotel El Khorbath, and finish with a dip in the hotel pool.

You can visit the Ksar and museum where Lhoussaine can explain the life and culture of the Berbers and nomads.

Then, shopping in the little souk (market) in Tinejdad and back to Igoudmane.

Day 4:  On Saturday we visit the large souk in Goulmima. This is where the locals shop, tourist generally don’t come here. Via the marvelous and varied landscape and the little villages of Tadighoust, Amellagou and Assoul, we arrive in Tidrine where we will have lunch with Lhoussaine’s sister. Here you will get to see how most of the Berbers actually live. Via Tamtatouch, the Todra Gorge and the old trade route, we drive back to Igoudmane.

Day 5:  In the morning Lhoussaine will escort you to the palmerie. The palmerie  is the farmland that the men and women work,  the women cut feed for the livestock and carry it back home.

In the afternoon, we drive straight through the mountains and a long bit off road, to our nomad tent. The nomad tent is located in a completely isolated area, where only nomads live and travel. We’ll build a fire, eat together with our nomad neighbors, dazzled by the myriad of stars and spend the night in the middle of nature.

Day 6: The following morning, we will eat bread that our neighbors have baked fresh for us. On the way back, we will visit the beautiful mountain village of  Aghballou N’Kardous.

Day 7: Back to Marrakech. We’ll bring you to the airport, or a riad if you have chosen to stay a couple of extra days in Marrakech (this can also be arranged for the start of the trip).

If you want to spend some time at the beach, we could also bring you to Essaouira , for example.
